Where’s your engagement session going to be?Mendon, MA – Here’s one of our favorite engagement sessions of the summer and you may recognize these two as we’ve just posted the sneak peek to their wedding. Heather and Dave chose Southwick’s Zoo in Mendon, MA for their engagement session and it was a very interesting choice. It was one of those “scattered showers” kind of spring day and without an opportunity for a rain date we crossed our fingers and toughed it out. We arrived a couple hours before closing and we had the whole place to ourselves, which was pretty special. Choosing an interesting and meaningful location can make an engagement session that much more special. It helps to create a comfortable atmosphere and break the ice a bit between photographer and subject. Heather and Dave’s session is a prime example of this. These two are so sweet and cute around each other that it made it super easy to have a great time.
The Wedding ReceptionPlymouth, MA – It’s time to party! Jen + Nate had a fantastic reception at the Pine Hills Golf Club in Plymouth, MA. Everything was perfectly planned and organized which is a testament to the superb coordination of Pine Hill’s coordinator, Katy Valentine. This reception was full of joy and laughter and it was an absolute pleasure to photograph. Once again, congratulations to the bride and groom. We shall see you sooner than later … for a Rock the Dress session at the cranberry bog!
Destination MassachusettsLowell, MA - Rachael+Ariel are planning their June wedding in Lenox, MA at the beautiful Seven Hills Inn. It’s actually a destination wedding for them and the majority of their guests because they are currently living in Florida. In fact they drove up only days before our engagement session. That’s a tough commute to get some wedding planning done, but we were delighted to hear that we’d have a chance to meet and have an engagement session before the wedding. It’s pretty important for the couple and their photographers to get to know each other before the wedding. Engagement sessions are an opportunity to break the ice, have fun and make some pictures. “…the story is in the details..”After a good evening of blog reading last night, I kept thinking about this particular post from Grace Ormonde’s blog. “Don’t overlook the details” inspired me to look back at some of my favorite detail images from this past year. I agree that details can certainly tell specific parts of the wedding story and these images can also reflect the personality, character and style of an individual wedding. Brides and grooms spend hours choosing the jewelery, the dress, the invititations, etc. and as wedding photographers we feel that these parts of the day should get their due attention in the wedding coverage. This image below is a very standard and simple ring shot taken on a window sill at The Langham Hotel in Boston, MA. This is one of my favorite ring shots of the year, not because it is overly dramatic or stylized, but because it is simple, clean and elegant; and undoubtedly a reflection of the style and taste of the bride and groom. There are probably a few different ring shots from this year that would gain more attention but this is my favorite. That’s the beauty of photography; the subjective, instinctual and visceral feeling that comes over us when we fall in love with pictures. -RP
